Strategic Human Resource for New Venture
This course focuses on HR issues relevant to the management of small and medium enterprises. I hope you will
gain insights about many aspects of talent management including how to select employees with desired
qualities, how to motivate employees using various reward systems, how to keep employees committed and
engaged, and how to manage poor performers.
To say it more simply, this course is about people. Most entrepreneurs or managers have never taken a
formal psychology or human resource management course, yet they often say that people related issues
consume the majority of their time. I hope that the ideas we share in this course would help you to make more
informed decisions about your people or about HR policies your organizations are implementing.
The course will consist of 6x 3-hour sessions. For each session, I will assign a case study and
complementing readings that best illustrate concepts relevant to that lesson’s topic. You will need to read
these before each lesson. I will also prepare some PowerPoint slides that would bring additional information or
highlight important issues from your readings. The last session will be devoted to student presentations and
